Many years ago, I was brought to
Kasisi Children's Home by a
Catholic priest, Peter Henriot. My
life felt
empty and
without hope,
but as I look
back, I
know that was
the moment
my beautiful
journey truly began.
Under the loving care of
Sister Mariola and the other sisters, Kasisi became the place
where my life was completely transformed. They not only gave me
an education at Kasisi Basic School and Kasisi Girls' Secondary
School, but they also taught me all the values a child needs
when growing up. Their constant hugs and encouragement had a
huge impact on me, making
me feel safe
and loved.
They helped
me realize
there was
so much more
to this
world. They taught me
how to
share, how
to find the
good in
every person,
and what
it meant
to have an
open heart by treating every single one of us equally, no matter
where we came from. I am who I am today because of their love
and guidance.
After
completing secondary school,
my path
continued with
the generous
support of
Carla, who
sponsored my nursing studies in the Copperbelt Province. Being
so far from the only home I had
ever known
was difficult,
but Sister
Mariola’s
constant encouragement
kept me
going. After
three years, I graduated as a registered nurse and was able to
return to Kasisi to help care for the
children. It
was a
profound
experience to return
to the
place that
saved me,
not as
a child
in need, but as a professional ready to give back.
It was in the Kasisi treatment
room that my life took another incredible turn. A visiting eye
specialist saw
my work
and asked
me a
question that
changed my
future: "Do
you want
to be
a nurse forever?" That simple question, and the kindness
of Sister Maria who shared it with Sister Mariola, led to an
opportunity I could never have imagined.
My journey to Poland to study
medicine was made possible by the incredible generosity of the
Fundacja Kasisi, especially Szymon Holownia and Mateusz Gasinski,
and the Friends of Kasisi Children's Home.
The road
was
challenging, filled
with a new culture,
a new
language, and a harsh winter, but I was never truly
alone. Sister Mariola’s relatives, Kazik and Ola, welcomed
me with
open arms
and became
my family
in Poland.
Their visits
and kindness
were a constant reminder that I was still loved, even
from thousands of miles away.
After six
years of
hard work,
I am so humbled
and grateful
to say
that I
am now
a doctor.
This entire journey has been one of the most amazing
ones, and I wouldn't have made it without everyone's help. This
is a testament to the fact that there is no more beautiful place
on earth than Kasisi
Children's
Home, a
place of
profound love,
care, and
comfort. My
heart overflows
with gratitude for everyone who has been a part of my story.
A heartfelt
thank you. |
