Kasisi Children’s
Home truly is a magical place, and there are no words to
describe how grateful I am to have had the opportunity to stay
at Kasisi for three months. There is no doubt that I have truly
felt part of the Kasisi family from the moment I arrived.
The sisters were extremely welcoming, and I greatly admire the
wonderful establishment of Kasisi that they have created. After
staying at Kasisi for only a brief period of time, I was able to
observe how impeccably organized all of the sisters are in
ensuring that all work is completed and all of the children are
cared for. Also, I could not help but marvel at the amount love
and compassion that the sisters live by every day of their
lives. I feel that I have created life long friendships with the
sisters, and it is my intention that I will continue to stay in
touch with the sisters for many years to come.
In addition to the sisters, I am extremely thankful to have had
the opportunity to form relationships with some of the mummies.
The mummies have truly taught me the meaning of hard work; I
have an immense amount of respect for their work ethics. They
were very open and inviting to me as a visitor, and they were
eager to teach me how to speak a bit of Chinyanja. The happiness
and joy that they bring to forth in every day of their lives was
also something I appreciated.
Last but not least, I have thoroughly enjoyed every moment that
I have spent with the children, from the babies to the older
girls and boys. I spent many hours tutoring the children for
school and teaching piano, but I am certain that I learned much
more from the children than I could have possibly taught them.
It was truly refreshing to spend time with the children, because
boredom is not a concept that any of the children know of.
Instead of requiring constant distraction and activities, the
children simply value each other’s company. The children have
also amazed me in their eagerness to help the sisters and
mummies with any work that needs to be done. All of the older
children assist in providing care and love for the babies and
younger children.
Overall, the children have imparted on me more happiness than I
could have possibly brought forth to them. Happiness at Kasisi
is not a passing mood, it is a constant way of life. The
children, mummies and sisters radiate happiness, happiness that
I can not help but absorb.
In my short life of twenty years, I can say with confidence that
the most profound experience has been my visit to Kasisi. My
only wish is that I will be able to return to Kasisi in the
future. |
