Nelly |
Nelly is a girl who has been living at
Kasisi since she was three months old. She is now 17
years old. At the age of two she suffered serious illness
which left her with a tumour in the brain.
Nelly is facing many problems, including being
short-sighted, short concentration span, language skills,
and learning abilities.
Her numerous operations have caused damage to her brain. She
has good memory and understands most of what is said to her.
She once attended a special school at the government
hospital in Lusaka, however she often has blackouts
therefore the long journeys to town were not easy for her.
Currently, she is developing her concentration span and
language skills by having stories read to her. In addition,
she is trying to strengthen her muscles and develop her
motor skills by cutting, sticking, basic puzzles and she
does exercises on a large gym ball.
She would greatly benefit from some specially adapted
resources, which would allow her to learn through touch and
not sight, which are not available in Zambia.
Nelly needs individuals or groups of people to sponsor her
learning resources. Some of the preferred resources are
available on the
RNIB
website [link opens new window]

items are required for immediate sponsorship:

GD04 String along lacing kit £12-50
Also needed are tactile books. These can be bought on the
following website:
