Live to love. That is the message of Kasisi.
And it is more than true. Of all things nearly three months in
Kasisi have taught me, the main thing is that if anything is
worth living for, it is love. I have been immersed in love by
the Sisters and children, especially by ‘my’ babies and
toddlers.
I have enjoyed every second shared with them,
and feel very lucky and grateful that I have been given the
chance to help to take care of them for a few months. I have
been left with great respect for all the Sisters that run this
highly organized place, still making time for and taking care of
children, volunteers and visitors. Also, I have gained deep
respect and admiration for the mommy’s who make the hard work of
practical care-taking of the numerous children their daily job.
I have enjoyed my time teaching the children English and music,
with them teaching me Nyanja and things about (Zambian) life in
return. There have been happy times, when children were picked
up by relatives to go home, and also sad times, when children
got sick or even died. I am especially grateful that I have been
able to take care of little Mathilda for the greatest part of
her too short life.
Upon leaving, I’m sure that there are many
moments to come when I’d wish I could just walk into the baby’s
ward and hug all ‘my’ little ones, of whom I’ve become so fond
of during my time here.
I am grateful to each and everyone who made
my stay here so special, and in particular I would like to thank
Sister Mariola, who gave me the chance to return to my roots and
spend some unforgettable months in this beautiful and rewarding
place.
