My name is Grzegorz. At Kasisi I
worked as a volunteer of the Silesian Voluntary Service “Youth
For The World”. I have stayed in Kasisi for
fifteen months. As it is written on the website, Kasisi does not
have to be called an orphanage any longer, but Kasisi Children's
Home and it is home indeed.
When you see the smiles of the children,
their joyful playing, and nice singing around, then you can be
sure that these young people are happy.
My duty in Kasisi was exactly like that: to
be a “father”, an older brother, a guide, a helper, and an
uncle-as all the children call me. I tried to make them glad and
happy and feel safe and know that there is always someone who,
like the sisters and mummies, can give a helping hand.
The little ones give me a hundred times back
for the effort I put in. Once one of the girls said that she
definitely wanted go back with me to Poland. When I responded
saying that it is very far and she will miss her friends and
home she said that it really does not matter, she will ask
Sister for permission and will go with me.
My duties also were to help the sisters in
some home duties such as acting as an electrician, doing some
reparations, and sometimes doing the shopping, etc.
At this time I would like to say thank you
very, very much to all the sisters who helped me during these
months and took very good care of me. Also to all the mummies,
workers and friends of Kasisi Children's Home from whom I always
could receive support. Thank you for all the advice, lessons and
good examples.
I had an amazing time spent in the middle of
Zambia and if somebody is thinking about joining any mission
somewhere in the World I can give my experience as an example
that a person will receive much more then he or she gives to
others.
